SKINCARE | POSTPARTUM

The absolute holy grail of motherhood: Bio oil.
Backstory: during pregnancy I developed dark spots on my neck and belly. I felt so insecure about it because I’d never had skin issues before and thought I had an underlying health condition. Well, that condition is called fluctuating hormones and pregnancy melasma.
In short: Bio oil helps with stretch marks and scars. My belly button was almost black and now it’s hardly tinted. I still use it because it can take a long time to get my skin back.

As for PIXI TONIC PRODUCTS:
If you’re looking for a nice complexion glow these are your go-to! They have rich antioxidants that fortify your skin through probiotics. I love PIXI as a brand as they do not test on animals, and are alcohol + paraben free. The Vitamin C Tonic helps with sun damaged skin. It is applicable to your face and neck. The collagen tonic helps smooth uneven skin textures.

I didn’t really have a skincare routine before I got pregnant. I don’t really break out thanks to my mom’s skin genes. I have combo skin. Overall my skin is still sensitive to things like rubber, nickel, and fake jewelry that cause mild eczema patches on my skin. I have not reacted to Pixi Collagen or Pixi Vitamin C even though they’re slightly fragrant. They’re gentle products and I love them!

Routine: Bio oil X2 a day
PIXI: bedtime post shower

1.  I drench a round facial cotton cloth and apply my collagen and repeat with my vitamin C.
2.  I dab my face dry and set my face with the bio oil and rub it on my chest/neck.
As women, when we age things start to change especially skin coloration.
Based on my research this could all be due to hormones, aging, and pH balance. The best bet is to stay hydrated and eat balanced meals. Limit sugar and sodium intake.
I recommend these products even during pregnancy. Bio oil during 3rd trimester is a must!

VITAMINS AND IMMUNE SUPPORT

Back story:
I had a very difficult pregnancy. I was a relatively healthy eater. OBGYN’s take pictures of your baby and look for overall health. Immune support and nutrition starts with you. It’s up to us to advocate for our health and keep a balanced lifestyle for our bebes.

I love love love Mommy’s Bliss. I recommend natural folate to all mommies instead of taking the synthetic one in prenatals. (Leafy greens) mommy’s bliss includes a blend of omega fatty acids and vegetarian DHA derived from chia seeds and algae. Vitamin C&D are included. Great for your growing hooman!

It’s hard to keep up with fluids especially for working pregnant moms. Staying hydrated is key, and probiotics help regulate your body. The 3rd trimester is where moms begin to feel organ pressure, round ligament pain, and extreme exhaustion. The last thing you need is to be constipated or to get hemorrhoids.

KEY: support your organs especially your liver. Your liver is on over-drive as it supports your baby’s growth. Probiotics can be in form of a supplement or even in miso soup paste! Plenty of options available in foods but I personally prefer taking the pill everyday which is said to be pregnancy/nursing safe.

Collagen can support your new life-creating beloved stretch marks! Yes, your skin is an organ. Support your skin with natural oils. Avoid fragrant irritants or do a patch test before. Your skin is most sensitive during pregnancy hence using organic/stretchy fabrics is best.

NEW ALLERGIES: can present themselves during pregnancy as your allergy tank shifts with your hormones. My recommendations are based off my research on supporting my immune health + hormones. Things you may be mildly allergic to pre-conceiving or have protection from during the first trimester can shift in the third. This includes (textile dermatitis, foods, liquids that have coconut, etc).

Collagen pills are the economical choice however  powder is available for easy consumption. There’s so many options on the market. The only downside of the pills is they’re huge and the serving size is SIX a day. These pills include Vitamin C. The general  recommendation for vitamin C per day is usually 65mg and maximum is up to 2,000mg Check with your physician. Everyone is different!

I requested a doctors note in my third trimester to wear leggings to work! (My skin is sensitive to nickel, and harsh dyes). Be your own advocate as I always say. Creating a human is hard enough. Pregnancy rashes are common especially in fair skinned women.

Avoid harsh chemicals. An item I used late in the game: BIO OIL! Holy grail of motherhood. I’ll talk more about that in my next post.
